Ignacio Ibarzábal is an Argentine educator, social entrepreneur, and civic leader recognized for his transformative work at the intersection of education, leadership, and democracy. As the Executive Director of Argentinos por la Educación and a prominent figure in Latin American civic life, Ignacio is committed to building bridges between civil society, public institutions, and future generations. His work champions educational equity, citizen participation, and data-driven policymaking.

Basic Information

Ignacio Ibarzábal is based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where he leads a range of educational and civic initiatives aimed at improving public education and strengthening democratic institutions. He is best known for co-founding Argentinos por la Educación, an independent civil society organization that mobilizes citizens, educators, and leaders to demand and support better educational outcomes in Argentina. He is also involved in regional networks focused on civic education and youth engagement in Latin America.

Background / Bio

Early Life & Education

Born and raised in Argentina, Ignacio developed a strong sense of civic responsibility early in life. Inspired by his country’s political transitions and deep-rooted challenges in education, he pursued a path that combined social sciences, policy studies, and ethics.

He holds a degree in Sociology from Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA) and later earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School, where he studied under renowned professors of civic leadership and public policy. His academic training emphasized the role of narrative, social capital, and public engagement in achieving systemic change.

Professional Experience

Ignacio began his career working on community development and education reform projects in underserved regions of Argentina. Early roles included research and advocacy for nonprofits focused on educational access and equity. Over time, he shifted from program delivery to organizational leadership, combining field knowledge with strategic policy engagement.

In 2017, he co-founded Argentinos por la Educación, which quickly became a leading voice for evidence-based education policy in Argentina. Under his leadership, the organization has launched major public campaigns, developed national education reports, and built cross-sector coalitions that include educators, families, civil servants, and media professionals.

He also serves as a lecturer and advisor for civic leadership programs in Latin America, providing training in public narrative, organizing, and democratic values.

His work bridges the gap between research and real-world mobilization—helping citizens engage with education policy not as distant observers, but as co-owners of the system.
